History Of The Scots Language

February 18, 2010 by Joan Sebastien

In the tenth and eleventh centuries Scottish Gaelic was at its most popular. These days there is no more than 1.6% that have the ability to converse in the Gaelic language. Nearly all pro- Gaelic speakers may say or may have said that this was the plan of the English – to rid the British Isles of their Gaelic language and replace it by the English language and have the single language spoken throughout the country. In fact, there are various reasons for the decrease of Gaelic as being a key language in Scotland.

Firstly, by around 1400 the distinction between the Highlands and the Lowlands was firmly established. A scholarly man named John of Fordun had this to say about the differences between the highlanders and the lowlanders in 1380:

\”The people of the coast are of domestic and civilised habits, trusty, patient, and urbane, decent in their attire, affable, and peaceful, devout in Divine worship, yet always ready to resist a wrong at the hands of their enemies. The highlanders and people of the islands, on the other hand, are a savage and untamed nation, rude and independent, given to rapine, ease-loving, clever and quick to learn, comely in person, but unsightly in dress, hostile to the English people and language, and, owing to the diversity of speech, even to their own nation, and exceedingly cruel. They are however faithful and obedient to their king and country, and obedient to their king and country, and easily made to submit to law, if properly governed.\”

Therefore it may be asserted that the key reason for the decrease in the Gaelic language was because of the great divide among the varying areas of Scotland. And by the sixteenth century the divergence concerning both was at a record high because of in the main, historical reasons and a diverse language being spoken. James VI had two major concepts for his Highland policy – one being methods to make profits and the other was for it being useful for plantation. He considered that the highlanders and especially the islanders were not paying their own reasonable taxation and he wished to alter this.

In 1597 he created three burghs within the Highlands while using the objective of enabling a number of personnel from the lowlanders to rule. There was a lot of disruption to follow. And thus the financial cost of this disruption was high.

Top Tips for Energy Conservation At Home

February 15, 2010 by John Gerace, PhD, PE

One of the hottest topics at the moment regards our impact on the environment. As such, we are all looking at ways to cut back on the amount of energy we use. As with many things, this energy conservation begins at home. Here is a selection of top tips to help you cut down accordingly.

Two of the biggest wastes of energy in the home are inefficient use of heating and cooling systems so, as a first step, ensure these are well maintained. Secondly, try notching your thermostats down a degree or two; you shouldn\’t feel the impact too much physically but you sure will financially. Also ensure your air conditioning unit has good airflow, and any obstructions are removed.

Household appliances are also big users of energy, notably washers and dryers. Ideally, washing should be line dried in the fresh air. This obviously is a big saver, but also adds certain freshness. If the dryer does have to be used however, try and do loads so that one load goes in as soon as another finishes. This helps to retain heat in the dryer and saves energy.

Another appliance that eats up energy is the refrigerator. There are not too many people that clean the rear of their refrigerators all too often but, if this is done weekly or at least monthly, dust will be kept to a minimum and the refrigerator will operate much more efficiently. Also, the seal around the doors should be checked often to ensure there are no leaks wasting energy.

Ovens and stoves should also be well maintained; dust, grease and grime reduce efficiency and vary the cooking temperatures produced dramatically. It is also worth having a thermometer to use in an oven to get the exact temperature, as LED displays are not always accurate. A side benefit of the thermometer is that you will likely find that your food cooks better.

These are only a few basic steps to help get you started with home energy conservation. Once started, you are sure to find many other areas you can cut back on or make more efficient. Not only are you helping to do your small bit for society, but your bank balance will look a whole lot better too.

2012 – Surviving The Coming Earth Changes

February 6, 2010 by Dr. Jay Polmar

Roland Emmerich\’s film 2012 caused a big hullaballoo, and all the disaster-porn films we\’ve been seeing for the last 50-60 years or so is scaring the heck out of viewers. So badly are they scared of the end that they are watching the same movies of disaster, over and over, with different actors, different titles, and different producers – all aimed to scare you and empty your pockets.

The World Isn\’t Coming To An End, it\’s just scary Hollywood, or Horrorwood – as some label it.

Let\’s get real. Let\’s discuss some of the pin-point targets:

1. The World Will End With Planetary Alignment and the repositioning of the Earth along the Galactic Equator – …. R-I-G-H-T! The phenomena of placement of the stars and galaxies in space is not new. These things have occurred before, and it wasn\’t the end of the world. Actually, the date predicted, Winter Solstice, 2012 is not as significant as other astronomical phenomena happening before this. This is just fear-mongering of the formerly unemployed \’ of the world writers\’ with nothing better to do than create movies to scare the bejesus out of little kids.

2. There is no Mayan Prophesy says the world is coming to an end. There is no known prophesy that the world is coming to an End and whoever said that should know that it can\’t be. The records of the Maya civilization were effectively destroyed, like all other Meso-American histories by the Spanish Conquistadors, who just pillaged the valuables, raped the women and then killed the men and sometimes the women, but not necessary in that order. And, what information that was kept – was kept in secret archives to keep the truth away from the public because it would destroy the Catholic Church. The evidence indicated that the majority of the Meso-American population was, in fact, the lost tribes of Israel. This was written by Franciscan Monks at the time of the invasion, and British and other archeologists later. The actual Mayan Prophesy was simple – \’Live naturally, in natural time, or your biosphere (Earth – our mother ship) would not survive. We\’ll we did it. No lying about that. For the past umpteen years, we have been just like conquerors, raping, murdering, and killing mother earth. OOPS! I didn\’t do it – you didn\’t do it – the politicians allowed it – all for greed. Oil, Gold, Silver – rape the earth suffers the consequences. The end date of the Mayan Calendar had nothing to do with the end of the planet, it had to do with the end of an era.

2a. When the Earth was first inhabited there was something of a 3 degree axis tilt and the planet was green, and water blue, and life was abundant. What by the name of God have we done to our mother?

2b. And now, YIKES, we\’re at 23 degree wobble now. Yes, something is happening, changes are occurring, but it\’s not the end. It scares people to think that changes are coming – people fear change. CHANGE IS GOOD!

2c. Will people will die? Of course, people are already dying. Yes, we\’ve burned fossil fuels, destroyed our air, cut down our forests, created deserts where there were none before and previously the planet cleansed itself with great floods. People are dying, we are more aware since Hurricane Katrina, that things are not right due to global warming, and Tsunamis, great floods, and thousands more deaths in countries where floods were a rarity.

2d. Many species are dying. Faster than ever before species are disappearing. One indication that might be considered, or two, are the frog population which began disappearing a few years back, and the bees. We are impacting nature and we don\’t step lightly – our footprint is huge and visible, and we are destroying all of life without mistreatment of our mother.

2e. Now there are more diseases, more horrible, more incurable – a sick society and planet produce all forms of diseases.

3. It\’s human nature – It\’s obvious that the nature of the human being is to conquer. The continuous development of warfare, atomic, and nuclear weaponry is solely aimed at the destruction of mankind and hurting the planet. Previously, we had been the only big bully playing with nukes, now every schoolyard bully has them and someone is likely to play war games just to demonstrate my \’thingie\’ is bigger than your \’thingie\’.

3a. The Belief in Ancient Religions – I must mention this, because this is the greatest manipulation of human beings\’ behavior on Earth. Sorry, priests, ministers, rabbis, I honor you all for what you know, but your DOGMA is not helping the situation. Each one of you has chosen an individual branch as path of the Tree of Life, and none of you are on the Expressway to God. Please stop telling your people they are sinners – as men of God, many of you have been caught with your own pants down around your ankles and some honey taking some money for some SINFUL and LUSTFUL experience you needed to have. You dirty old sinner you. It may not have been you, but we all know of whom I speak. I am not judging you – just stop judging others and stop playing the blame game which results in guilt. As you know – guilt has absolutely no survival value, it is responsible for many illnesses that do not resolve and result in death. Stop guilting others, or …

3b. Humans Mistreat Each Other, Animals, Plants, and Mother Earth Too – imagine all the drilling, the cutting of trees, the burning of fields, everything normal and beautiful of earth destroyed by greed to steal the resources and be billionaires, all at the cost of our mother. Imagine our planet as a great big fluffy dog, filled with life. And the dog feels the burring of something drilling into it – just like a flea. And another, burning like burning the trees – the dog begins to scratch and shake fiercely and the fleas fall off. You got a parachute for when this happens to us?

4. The Mayan Calendar – Interestingly enough does end on the Winter Solstice, 2012. Why? Not because it\’s the end of the world – it\’s just the end of the 5th Cycle of Life on the Planet. The 6th Cycle that begins immediately thereafter and is called the Age of Enlightenment. It\’s sounds like an exciting time to be alive – so get prepared!

WELCOME – this is reality.

Many of us will fall off, many of us will die. Those who are not prepared, and those who think they are better or more powerful than Mother Earth that we live on, will suffer.

Richard Branson is really making his fleet of Intergalactic Space ships to take the rich and wealthy off the planet, just like Roland Emmerich has set of Arks in his movie. Branson\’s ticket price is much cheaper.

I\’D RATHER STAY HERE ON EARTH

In 1987, the Harmonic Convergence, as written about by Dr. Jose Arguelles, and my participation in it – by travels through endless ruins, culminating at the El Tule Tree in Oaxaca in Mexico, spoke the prophesy that we had 25 years left of life as we knew it. We must return to natural, non-destructive living. We blew it!

Now the cards are laid out on the table. Natural disasters are not done by nature but by those politicians who paid no heed to the warnings.

What can the scenario possibly be — to cause the end of life as we know it? Who knows, asteroids, meteorites, some crazy Anti-Semitic Iranian ex-president who stole the presidency from the people in order to try to wipe out the State of Israel, some angry Korean president who is dying because of his anger at the United States over a 60 year old situation, or errors by our own major powers in their thinking that nuclear energy is stable enough to survive what our earth going through with hurricanes, tsunamis, typhoons, earthquakes, while this huge dog is shaking off us fleas.

HOW TO SURVIVE?

Like a Boy Scout: Be prepared, more than anything else – it\’s your mind and soul that need preparation. Since we all know that the soul is immortal, you will survive in one form or another. We have prepared the first of several guides on survival. Right around the corner – 2012 – Are You Ready? 2012 – Are You Ready? The new age of Enlightenment and a you need a guidebook. This is your survival guide for 2012 – Are Your Ready? 2012 – Are You Ready? This and other unique content \’2012\’ articles are available with free reprint rights.

Government Ban On Biker Colors In Bars !

December 29, 2009 by L.J. James

There is a new law in Virginia that will ban Motorcycle Club Colors in Bars. The law, originally aimed at Street Gangs, is causing quite a stir with Virginia Bikers. The law states that Bar & Restaurant owners will lose their liquor license if they allow patrons who wear “gang” related attire such as Club Logo’s or Colored Bandannas.

These sort of “grey area” laws are extremely dangerous and a threat to everyone’s freedom. Who decides what constitutes “Gang Apparel”? I’m wondering if Boy Scouts are going to be able to eat together at Applebees if they are in their uniforms.

According to news reports, many Bikers and Motorcycle Club Members in Virginia have already begun fighting this law. If a law like this is allowed to stand in Virginia, it won’t be long until it is passed in other states across America!

We as Motorcyclists and Bikers (It does not matter what you call yourself) have to realize fast that we are all connected. It doesn’t matter what you ride, what State you live in or who you Support, we’re all in this together. What effects Me effects you and it doesn’t matter what you happen to think of me.

When the local Bar you and your Brothers love hanging out at is told that you and all other members of Motorcycle Clubs can no longer go there or they will revoke the Bars liquor license, What then?

This is no Joke my Biker Brothers, every month there is another new law that is aimed not only Motorcycle Club Members, but all Americans. It seems that every time the Government wants to take away a freedom, they find a way to craft a new law for our “safety”. What kind of Country is this turning into when you can’t wear what you want and suddenly, your constitutional right to assemble is taken away from you?

Although there are many ignorant people out there that believe Motorcycle Clubs are Gangs, that’s simply not the case. Most Motorcycle Clubs are made up of hard working, honest, law abiding, patriotic, American Citizens who enjoy a common bond, Motorcycles. It’s what is in a persons heart that determines who they are, not the clothes they wear.

In the past year the government has taken away the Colors of one Motorcycle Club. A law enforcement officer can demand anyone sporting the Clubs logo to forfeit it. The theory is that the loss of the logo strips the club of its “gang identity.”

Grant it, it appears that some of the Clubs members may have been involved in illegal activities, but that doesn’t mean that everyone who rides a Motorcycle should be punished for it. In fact, less than 10% of this 600 Member Club was even accused of wrong doing.

In addition, the Government and law enforcement agencies have been spending millions of our dollars to influence friends and ex-members of Motorcycle Clubs in an effort to infiltrate these clubs in hopes of catching members doing something illegal. Often, when they find that the Club they’ve infiltrated is nothing more than a group of Patriotic, Law Abiding Men & Women, they’ll fabric wrong doing so that they can justify the enormous amount of resources spent on these Fishing Expeditions.

Just imagine how much better off we’d all be if they used those resources to investigate the Corrupt Politicians, the Corporations that control our Country, Wall Street, and the other issues that are quickly sinking this great Nation.

What I want to know is, what will be the last straw? What’s it going to take for us to say enough is enough? We can not fight these Laws and Fight each other at the same time! We need to work together to save what we are, who we are.

The Government has taken away our rights to ride the Motorcycle we want, to wear what we want and now to go where we want! Why are we still fighting each other? When are we going to wake up??

Tips For Writing Suspense Fiction Books

December 9, 2009 by Jack Hanley

There is nothing more relaxing than finding a good book to read. Suspense fiction books are easy to get lost in and a good one will have you turning pages all night until it is finished. A good book will be one where the story keeps you guessing until the very end.

There is nothing like a book filled with suspense and wonder unlike a non- fiction the characters in fiction are made up so they could be anyone the author intends. They can be a vicious and cruel as the imagination of the writer. If you think you have what it takes to write a good page turner why not start one. All it would take is a great imagination and some thought as to how the character should become as real to the reader as to you the writer.

If you are just considering writing as a hobby, you can take your time. Start off slow and let it happen as it does. You do not have to rush out and write the best seller in a day. Read the following pointers and let your imagination do the rest.

The first part should be to think of where you would want your story to be. The place should be one that you can associate with. When you were a child was there a specific place that terrified you. It could be your childhood home, town, a hospital, any place that could provoke fear.

Next you will need some characters. Think of characters that you could bring together through out the story in some intertwining way. You should have at least one bad guy, more is better, but one will be good. Bring your character to life. Describe them as the reader should see them. Give them dimension with specific hair color and eye color. You should make them seem as real as possible, the more you describe, the more detail you give the more real they become.

Each chapter should incorporate more and more suspenseful scenes. The more you build the suspense the better. Try and make the reader guess what will happen next. The best part is when the reader thinks they have it figured out only to find they were totally wrong. This will make them want to continue reading until they find the next possible answer. If possible make two or three suspects seem like the perfect answer to the puzzle and then switch it up to keep the readers guessing if maybe they were wrong again.

The ending should be an “oh my” ending. One that will make the reader afraid to sleep with the lights out. The best inspiration can be found in other books. Do not by any means copy someone else works, but if you are stumped on ideas for places for example, read some great works and see how the author brings their town or destination to life. Get a feel for how the characters come to life and develop your own ideas in your imagination.

Sometimes sitting without thinking is the best way to begin. In other words, it is good to have a general idea of what you intend to develop, but sometimes we just begin best without over thinking. The characters will come to life in your imagination; you simply have to apply it to the paper. Remember things that make you think and wonder how that could happen. Writing suspense fiction books is just that it is fiction; you could make your characters anyone you want them to be and do anything you want them to do.

Is Clean Water A Human Right or a Privilege?

October 20, 2009 by Katadino Fitorio

In order to answer that question, one has to take into account where the answerer lives. A thing we know for sure, it that water is a limited resource. Although in the U.S. and Canada, it is not felt physically, there are different problems that have to do with the consumption of water.

In a report published in 2005 by EWG (Environmental Working Group) , more than 230 million American citizens were exposed to 260 different pollutants in their tap water. This is when a water filtration system like the Katadyn Hiker Pro, comes to the rescue. Many scientists in America took part in this independent study over a 2 year period of time. They tested greater than 21 million tap water tests, and went to over 4000 water treatment plants.

Within the 260 contaminants that were discovered, over half of them were unregulated by the government. When people knew what was happening, states that were worried, like Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, etc. took drastic steps to fix this contamination problem.

Although when we start talking about bottled water, the problems are even worse. EWG, also tried to do a study like this with bottled water. Of the 228 bottled water suppliers, greater than half of them wouldn’t give any information at all about the source of their water, or any of the treatment methods they used. This lack of disclosure, is quite scary for consumers and health care providers. The samples that were given to be tested, were shown to have 38 various chemical pollutants.

There were cancer causing chemicals found in drinking water by Sam’s choice, a brand sold by Wal-Mart, that beat out all safety standards for drinking water.

After this, it is easy to see, that bottled water is not better than tap water, nor is it safer. To be honest, it could actually be more dangerous, since there is not much that is known about where the water came from, or the filtering procedures they use.

In places like Africa, Europe, and Latin America, this situation is even more adverse. If you’re in a part of the world where drinking the water might kill you, boil it or run it through a filtration system like “Katadyn hiker pro” before use.

There are over 1.3 billion people that do not have any access to drinking water at all, according to the World Health Organization. The water they have naturally, gets contaminated because they have little sanitation, and the tap water they have is too dangerous to consume.

Water is something that is a wonderful treasure, but through environmental negligence and pollution, water can become an extremely dangerous weapon. Because of diseases like E.Coli and Cholera, which are water born diseases, 1.8 million people die every year.

Lots of people are now realizing that to make sure that their families are safe, they need to filter their water the right way, and also know what they are drinking.

Out Of Work Claims Are Beginning To Fall

October 13, 2009 by Jennifer McClelland
Filed under Politics

The quantity of individuals who are recently jobless are beginning to request less jobless benefits. The government claimed on Thursday that the amount of requests for jobless benefits are finally starting to calm down. The regrettable news is that the quantity of individuals who are still collecting jobless benefits has risen to 6.78 million, which is the biggest amount on record ever since 1967.

The Labor Department said that the number of primary claims for unemployment benefits has dropped from 636,000 to 623,000. The amount is lower than the estimates given from analysts of 635,000.

Additional good news came from the government today stated that demand for ?expensive manufactured merchandise? posted their second rise in three months in April. This may possibly mean that the manufacturing downturn is finally lessening also.

There was also bad news in the report from Thursday. The government released information stating that the sale of new houses were dull in April. At the side of that information, 12% of homeowners were behind schedule on their mortgage payment or were previously in foreclosure.

Needless to say, there were numerous lay-offs to be reported through the jobless claims. Many of which were directly connected to the Auto industry.

Initial jobless claims a year ago were at 378,000, and we were officially in a slump then also. The numbers at this time are still a long way from what a successful economy should be performing at. With unemployment claims increasing, even if they aren?t rising at the rate that some were expecting, many are expecting the unemployment numbers to climb from 8.9% in April to 10% by the end of the year. 5.7 million jobs have been lost since December 2007 ? The most ever since World War 2.

California ended up reporting the biggest increase in claims of only 5,447. The increases could be directly accredited to firings in building, commerce and service industries that tend to cater to higher end customers. At the same time, Michigan reported a reduction in claims. A plunge of 9,758 in that state was said to be directly associated to the cut in firings in the automobile industry.

It is good to observe some development in the unemployment claims across the board. Once more, as a brand new graduate any information coming from the employment area in the upbeat direction is welcomed information. I?m positive there are an abundance of individuals who are either without a job or who are worried about their own job security that are looking at this news and breathing a small sigh of relief at the same time.
