If you are afflicted by migraine headaches, you know how painful they can be and how they can prevent you from being able to function and live your life normally. Some of the symptoms of migraines include: aches, vomiting, nausea, pain, and sensitivity to sound and light. It is estimated that at least 10 to 15% of all Americans are afflicted by this illness. Migraines are a serious dehabilitating condition for some. Relief may be found through the use of prescription medicines, but these also often have severe side effects. These medicines can wear off quickly and also may be addictive. For these reasons, many are searching for alternatives to prescription drugs and hoping to find a migraine cure with no side effects.

Taking care of your body and keeping it in a healthy state is likely the most important thing you can do to prevent migraine headaches. Here are a few natural things you can do to help get rid of this condition:

1. Drink Water. It is a little known fact that dehydration is a major headache trigger. The recommended daily amount is eight to ten glasses, and you should be drinking this much if you are trying to reduce the occurrence of migraines. Also avoid caffeine, smoking, and alcohol, as these will quickly dehydrate your body.

2. Eliminate stress from your life. When your body is in a stressful state, this puts it at risk for many illnesses. Do what you need to do to decrease the stress in your life and you will be a much happier and healthier person for it.

3. Avoid Chemicals as much as possible. Chemicals are foreign substances to our bodies, even though they are found in many foods. Some of the most common chemicals to avoid are MSG, Aspartame, and phenylkentoneurics. Avoiding processed foods will defiantly help you with this, as they are extremely high in artificial ingredients and harmful chemicals.

4. Exercise regularly. Regular exercise makes anyone more relaxed, happy, calm, and may be the most natural migraine cure that exists. If you have health conditions that prevent you from moderate exercise, at least do yoga or stretch.

5. Consume vitamins, nutrients, and herbs that are known to help with migraine attacks. Research has proven that there is a link between vitamin deficiencies and migraines. The most important vitamin to make sure you are getting a good intake of is magnesium. A deficiency in this vitamin will bring about headaches and contribute to migraines. Riboflavin is another vitamin that is important to intake. As far as herbs, Feverfew and Butterbur has been taken for years to reduce headaches. There are many who claim these to be the best cure for migraines. Native Americans have been taking Butterbur for years to reduce headaches.

Although the main cause of migraines has not yet been discovered, we know that there are many contributing factors, most of which we have discussed. All people are different and what works for one may not work for others. It is important that you find what works for you and do it. You may actually be surprised how simple the remedy may be.
